Internet always and everywhere from your suitcase – ASCEND develops a mobile WebCase with NetByrd


Education, industry, financial systems and, above all, system-relevant structures such as water and energy supply or emergency services – everyday life in all areas is now dependent on the internet. If even parts of it fail, the consequences can be serious. For this case, ASCEND has developed the NetByrd WebCase, a portable Internet case that is ready for use in five minutes and delivers Internet anywhere at any time – for up to 60 devices.

“Our WebInTheBox solution is suitable for emergencies or for use in areas where there is a lack of appropriate infrastructure,” says Johannes Fickeis, Managing Director of ASCEND GmbH, explaining the development.
The portable WiFi box establishes a fail-safe Internet connection via LTE – at the touch of a button. It can optionally be linked to a satellite system via a WAN connection. The battery-powered SD-WAN router case can be managed centrally via a web interface; GPS fleet management enables the box to be tracked.
Features and characteristics of the NetByrd at a glance
- Robust, stable and handy with internal dimensions of 300 x 225 x 132 mm, external dimensions of 340 x 295 x 152 mm and a weight of 6 kg (without power supply units)
- Redundant power supply: 2 x USB-C 90 W
- Battery runtime up to 20h
- Various interfaces: 1x RJ45 WAN, 1x RJ45 LAN, 1x WLAN as WAN, 2x LTE-A Cat6 4G modems
- Wide 3G and 4G frequencies
- Data throughput up to 60 Mbit/s with 256-bit encryption; up to 100 Mbit/s without encryption
- Operating environment: Temperature: -40° – 65°C, humidity: 15% – 95% (non-condensing)
- When closed, the WLAN case is IP67 protected and can also be operated as such – at ambient temperatures of up to 20°C without direct sunlight
