Wi-Fi capacity requirements in classrooms, offices and medium-sized venues are increasing due to the growth in the number of devices connected via Wi-Fi. Increasing bandwidth requirements for applications and an ever-growing range of IoT devices are putting further strain on already overloaded Wi-Fi networks.

The RUCKUS R550 access point (AP) with the latest Wi-Fi 6 technology (802.11ax) offers the optimum combination of increased capacity, improved coverage and cost in dense environments. The R550 is our mid-range dual-band and dual-radio access point with the largest capacity, supporting four spatial streams (2×2:2 at 2.4 GHz/5 GHz). The R550 supports peak data rates of up to 1774 MBit/s and efficiently manages up to 512 client connections.

In addition to Wi-Fi 6 functions such as OFDMA, MU-MIMO and TWT, the R550 offers numerous patented Ruckus technologies. The R550 is ideal for medium-density deployments such as classrooms in educational institutions, dormitories, corridors and offices.

Enterprise wireless requirements are growing beyond Wi-Fi with BLE, Zigbee and many other non-Wi-Fi wireless technologies, creating network silos. Companies therefore need a standardized platform to avoid network silos. The RUCKUS AP portfolio is equipped to meet these challenges.

R550 Indoor Access Point Front

The R550 has built-in IoT frequencies with integrated BLE and Zigbee functions. In addition, the R550 is a convergent access point that enables customers to seamlessly integrate all new wireless technologies via the pluggable IoT module.

The R550 Wi-Fi 6 AP incorporates patented technologies that are unique to the RUCKUS Wi-Fi portfolio. –

BeamFlex+ antennas: Greater coverage and optimized throughput thanks to the patented multidirectional antennas and radio patterns –

ChannelFly: Improved throughput through dynamic channel switching to use the least utilized channel

Whether you’re deploying ten or ten thousand APs, the R550 is also easy to manage with RUCKUS’ cloud-based, physical, virtual and controllerless management options.

Advantages

Better mesh
Networking

Reduce expensive cabling and complex mesh configurations by simply checking a box with SmartMesh wireless meshing technology to dynamically create self-forming, self-repairing mesh networks. More than Wi-Fi Support services beyond Wi-Fi with the Ruckus IoT suite, Cloudpath security and onboarding software, SPoT Wi-Fi localization software and RUCKUS analytics.

Convergent
Access Point

This allows customers to avoid isolated networks and combine Wi-Fi and non-Wi-Fi wireless technologies into a single network by using integrated BLE and Zigbee methods and also integrating future wireless technologies via the USB port.

Access point antenna pattern

Thanks to the adaptive BeamFlex+ antennas from RUCKUS, the R550-AP can dynamically

and select from a large number of antenna patterns in real time (up to 64 possible combinations),

to establish the best possible connection to each individual device. The result:

  • Better Wi-Fi coverage
  • Reduced HF interference

Traditional omnidirectional antennas, such as those found in commercially available access points, oversaturate the environment by unnecessarily emitting RF signals in all directions. The RUCKUS BeamFlex+ adaptive antenna, on the other hand, routes radio signals per device on a packet basis to optimize Wi-Fi coverage and capacity in real time and support high-density device environments. BeamFlex+ can be operated without the need for device feedback, so even devices using outdated standards can benefit.
