What is a fixed IP address?
By default, you receive an IP address from Ascend with which you can access the Internet but cannot "get back in from outside". If you want to access your servers from the Internet through your SD-WAN tunnels, you need your own IPv4 address (often referred to as a fixed or dedicated IP address) from us.
Why does a company need a static (fixed) IP?
Companies often have network devices that need to be accessible from the outside. A constantly changing IP would be an obstacle. A static IP facilitates the addressing and administration of web servers and VPN access as well as the accessibility of connected network components. This means you can access the company network in any way you like and easily administer remote connections.
Why book a static IP with ASCEND?
Suppose you have 3 Internet connections. Your remote workers access your company via the fastest Internet connection using VPN. If this line fails, the VPN users can no longer work even though they still have two "healthy" lines.
The solution: with our SD-WAN router and the static IP address, they always stay online, both outgoing and incoming. This works via LTE, DSL, fiber optics and many other media - even from abroad.
